Florida confirms its first sexually transmitted case of Zika in 2017 stat : ABC News

The Florida Department of Health reported in a statement Tuesday that the case was reported in Pinellas County. Florida has confirmed its premier sexually transmitted case of Zika for this year, health officials said. "There is no directory of ongoing transmission of Zika by mosquitoes in any ambit of Florida," the department said. "It is important to remain Zika can also be transmitted sexually & to take precautions if you or your partner traveled to an ambit where Zika is active." The locally acquired contagions confirmed this year were all related to exposure to the virus in 2016, according to the Florida Department of Health.

On Monday the CDC updated its recommendations on screening pregnant women for the virus. Zika is a great concern to pregnant women & those hoping to become pregnant because it can have devastating consequences for babies born tomothers who were infective while pregnant. The exception to this is for those who have had a possible indication of Zika-related findings of their fetus in an ultrasound.
