- The first sexually transmitted Zika case of 2017 has been confirmed in Pinellas County, according to the Florida Department of Health. Officials say Zika can be transmitted sexually and urge people to take precautions if they or their partner traveled to an area where Zika is active. The total number of Zika cases reported in Florida in 2017 is 118 and break down as follows:-Travel-Related Infections of Zika 2017 - 90-Locally Acquired Infections exposed in 2016, tested in 2017 - 6-Undetermined Exposed 2016; Tested 2017 - 22-Pregnant Women with Lab-Evidence of Zika 2017 - 81These categories are not mutually exclusive and cannot be added together. It is also important to reduce the chance of sexual transmission by using condoms. Pregnant couples with recent travel to areas with active Zika transmission should consider using condoms for the duration of the pregnancy.

Officials: 12 new Zika cases in FL, one sexually transmitted
Florida has confirmed its first sexually transmitted case of Zika for this year, health officials said.The Florida Department of Health announced in a statement Tuesday that the case was reported in Pinellas County. A resident's partner showed symptoms of infection by Zika, a frequently mosquito-borne virus, after a recent trip to Cuba. "There is no evidence of ongoing transmission of Zika by mosquitoes in any area of Florida," the department said. "It is important to remember Zika can also be transmitted sexually and to take precautions if you or your partner traveled to an area where Zika is active. "There have been 118 Zika cases reported in Florida this year, with the majority linked to travel outside the continental United States.
